What is Guided Reading? Guided Reading is a powerful teaching strategy used to improve students' reading skills and comprehension. It involves small group sessions, where teachers work closely with students at their reading level. By tailoring instruction to individual needs, Guided Reading fosters independent reading and a deeper understanding of texts. #GuidedReading #learningtoday #learninghttps://lnkd.in/g23Dafcs

Real reading growth for Title I 7th-12th grade classrooms.

Low scores in CC R.L&I.1 aren't telling you they need more inference drills.Nearly all students can infer character traits in movies. They can in books too.Low scores scream your students can't access grade level text. This isn't a problem with state CC standards. It's an access problem - not comprehending text to demonstrate mastery of those standards.Kids can make inferences easily watching movies or cartoons because they're accessible.Accessibility is also why they can make inferences with texts at their comprehension level. So instead of doubling down on standards drills, classroom instruction must focus on literacy growth. Because when students can access grade level text, mastery of Common Core standards becomes suprisingly easy. #educationreform #educationalleadership #schoolleaders #teachers #principalschool

Setting: I had just given my presentation for my graduate thesis on βA Pastoral Approach to Pedagogy to my review board. I was asked to leave while they determined my score. 3/5 was passing.Reviewer One: overall it was good. Obviously it is at least a passing grade.Reviewer Two: But how do we assess his work? He hits all the benchmarks, but his focus was on something entirely out of our scope. I donβt see how we can give him more than a four.Reviewer Three (who was my cooperating teacher and mentor during my eight week practicing): What do you mean it is out of your scope?Reviewer Two: Our focus here is on proven theories and practices and how to integrate technology and progressive ideals in the classroom. Patrick seemed focused too much on going to studentsβ soccer games and poem recitations and other things like that. How do we even define that?Reviewer Three (in my defense): Love. That is a teacher who Loves his students.ββββββββββββββββββI got a four out of five, and my cooperating teacher told me what happened in this conversation (okay, I put it in my own words, but you get the idea!) #students #pedagogy #teacher #technology #work #love
